There is alot said about the state of the music industry. Much of that is dire. Then I read this article
David Byrne’s Survival Strategies for Emerging Artists — and Megastars
by David Byrne in WiReD. His knowledge of the industry and his insights make for a fascinating article. If you are musician, or if you love music, it’s a great read.

On a side note about success in the music industry, Fortune decided to rate Radiohead’s entreprenurial foray as #59 of what I’d like to say “Fortune’s 101 Dumbest Moments in Business”. Say that with a glint or a smirk. It sounds better when you think of it *that* way. http://money.cnn.com/galleries/2007/fortune/0712/gallery.101_dumbest.fortune/59.html
Thom Yorke is quoted as saying that they’ve made more money than all their previous albums combined: “In terms of digital income, we’ve made more money out of this record than out of all the other Radiohead albums put together, forever — in terms of anything on the Net” http://www.wired.com/entertainment/music/magazine/16-01/ff_yorke (David Byrne’s in there, too!)
David Byrne has a couple of corrections to this article. They are worth reading, too. See http://journal.davidbyrne.com/2008/01/01092007-correc.html
