About Me

My name is Bernie Michalik. I live in Toronto, Canada and work at IBM. What am I interested in? Well, just about anything!

I used to send interesting links and information to my friends on a distribution list I had called “smart people I know”. Eventually I decided to simply collect the information I was emailing and blog it here instead. That’s why it has the name it does.

I have also written a number of articles for the web site, 99u.com. You can find them here.

While I write mostly about things other than IT,  you should know that the opinions expressed on this site are my own and do not necessarily represent those of my employer.

Finally, I appreciate you taking the time to visit and read the blog. I hope you found it worthwhile.

P.S. If you have found my site worthwhile and you’d like to buy me a coffee, you can do so here.

P.S. The banner is a printout from some tests they did on my heart: there is an irregular beat on number 13.

thanx for sending the links…its the perfect break when rejiggin’ numbers in a xls stops being fun and turns into a slight gray of annoying…:-)))))

  4. Hallo!

I was wondering about the banner. Very interesting.

I found your blog through googling ‘facebook applications bad’, trying to find some examples of why people should be lenient with the facebook apps they use (thinking primarily in terms of privacy).

    Anyway – great site. 🙂

    • Well, colds are somewhat random, so the idea that a random post of mine helps seems appropriate! 🙂 Seriously, I hope you are over your cold soon and you feel better. Thanks for reading my blog!

  8. Bernie,

I really enjoy reading your blog. It has me seriously considering starting one of my own (now that I have a model of something that I like).

I also like that you included the history behind it on this page.

Thanks, Tom. I would like to encourage everyone to write, be it a blog or something else that is sharable. There is much more benefit than people realize.

  9. Bernie,
I bookmarked your blog months ago, although I can’t remember how I first found it. I appreciate the variety of always-smart stuff you include and I’ve shared more than one of your posts with friends in a continuing effort to appear smart, myself. “Where do you find this cool stuff?” “Why, on the smartpeopleiknow blog!” Thanks. 🙂

  10. Hey Bernie, I’ve seen you around at different IBM facilities, mostly at Bloor.
Checking my FB today I noticed a comment from you in common friend’s page. I recognized your pic and checked your info, where I found your website. I’m glad I did, I spent a good long time checking much of the interesting stuff you have posted. Your blog is awesome, really enjoyed it and I’ll start following closely the cool stuff you post. Cheers, and thanks for sharing.

  11. You’re an interesting chap indeed!
