When Facebook apps go bad…

Did you know Starbucks is all about dating? Neither did I. 🙂

See, I use Facebook. And I go to Starbucks often. Awhile ago I signed up for a Facebook app related to Starbucks. The other day I was informed of the following:

Thanks for using My Starbucks. We are excited to announce that, as of next week, My Starbucks’s name and functionality will be changed to SpeedDate. Data entered into the original app won’t be used anymore. Soon you’ll be able to try SpeedDate, the fastest way to meet new people, so stay tuned!

Thanks,
My Starbucks

It’s for reasons like this that I have trimmed down the use of Facebook applications to 0

  1. I don’t have any apps on Facebook either as I am not comfortable sharing my private data.

PS. Did you hear about another Facebook app story about Burger King (or was it Wendy’s?) where if you can remove 10 friends from your Facebook, you get a free burger?

  2. yep the Apps on FB are very questionable.. i trying to teach the news people to stop using the contest app as it 100% data mining of people info .. I got hit once not going again . Now Profile Peeker that said it will let you see who is viewing you profile .. another lie to get you to click … Using zero apps and removing the ads on the right side of you screen as well mark them as scams as most as very misleading.

    1. Thanks for your comments. I agree with you, too. I use zero apps as well. It’s a shame: I am sure there are good FB app developers out there. But there are too many shady ones.
