On the new Apple Neo

Computers come and go. Sometimes a few of of them get a few people excited. Rarely do any of them get many people exciting and raving. I think the Apple Neo computers is one of those rare devices. Just search for “apple neo reviews” and you’ll see what I mean.

Designers love it. Technologists love it. Some critics like Om Malik have written several piece on it, including this here and here. Heck, this review was art. Like I said: people are excited.

I’m excited  because the Neo highlights something that Apple does well that it doesn’t get enough credit for, and that is making lower end technology strongly appealing. It’s visually appealing through such things as the use of color. It’s technically appealing as a computer because of the great features you get for that low price.

If you are considering getting a new computer, you will consider it because you don’t feel you are getting junk. You don’t think you’re getting top end either. What you feel is that you are getting a good bang for your buck.

I also think Apple wins greatly when they make this type of device. When Apple makes value oriented products, they draw in users who may not have gone with an one of their devices. They get users who might have gone with a Chromebook or a low end Windows machine. And once you get those users  — and I was once one of them — to start using Apple technology, they will want to use more Apple technology, if for no other reason that all that technology works well together.

The Apple Neo looks like a great thing. For more on it, see the press release here. Obviously your next step is to go to an Apple store on apple.com and check them out.
