I came across this in twitter: Maternity Confinement in China « Jenny Zhu. It’s fasscinating what women who just had a baby have to do for the first month after delivery: no going out, no showers, no hair washing or teeth brushing. And more! Read the article on this 2000 year old tradition.

This article left me completely slack-jawed!
In Western culture, there aren’t too many young mothers who have the “luxury” of a mother (or indeed a nanny!) to care for her and her baby in the first month.
On a personal note, I distinctly remember scrubbing floors on my hands & knees and getting the house in order for my first-born’s Christening party, a mere 3 weeks after her birth! (And I was horribly sleep-deprived and fighting post-delivery complications!…. I survived, but I wouldn’t do it again!
