…as can be seen in this article: New Nokia phone offers free music where owners will be able to “keep all music they download during the 12 months of the package.”
The tide may turn, and the purchase of music may again become a viable business. But for the next few years, I think it will be something provided free as a way of supporting the purchase of something material (like a phone).

The beauty of the way music is becoming available for consumers now is down to the diversity of emerging business models and music available for free and paid and they way the music industry is opening up to them. Today We7 have signed a contract with EMI for their catalogue to be streamed for free to consumers via our ad funded model, adding to the signings of Sony BMG and Warner earlier this year and many free ad-supported downloads from independent labels.
These changes within the industry mean that consumers can now listen to all the music they want for free and buy the music they love. The consumer gets what they want and artists and rights holders get paid.
