Why is YouTube performing site maintainence at 10ish ET?

According to youtube, “We are currently performing site maintenance. Be cool – we’ll be back 100% in a bit.”.

Now imagine turning on your favourite channel on TV and seeing a test pattern and the words: Be cool – we’ll be back 100% in a bit.

Would you be thinking: ok. I’ll be cool. Or would you be thinking something else?

Youtube needs to do better.

  1. When I try to access youtube I am redirected to tw.youtube.com — I assume this is Taiwan Youtube? I thought it was weird that I couldn’t access any of the videos linked from lefty news sites, but now I see it’s the whole thing. I can’t believe I can’t find anyone else talking about this.

  3. I just wish they would let us know when “be back 100%” is. Do I have to wait until past midnight my time before I can finish writing my message to a friend?

  6. It’s 3am ET now, and its still not working. I can’t believe they would do this at 10pm, and for so long! >:o

  7. They’re doing it again…they need to pick a better time to do this. Surely most users are in the US…

  8. Last time they did this I waited until 2am and they were still in process.

    So it takes a while, definitely not a bit.
    For those of you urgently needing to finish, probably should wait – for those stuck uploading or something less urgent…go to sleep I guess.

    What choice do we have?
