What is the Hijab? Everything you wanted to know about this garment

This page at Wikipedia, Hijab by country, will tell you not only what the rules are for wearing this garment in many countries around the world, but it explains the difference between various form of Islamic dress. As you can see, the rules and the beliefs about this garment vary widely from country to country, not just in predominantly Christian countries, but in predominantly Muslim countries too. It is – pardon the pun – a very revelling page.

  1. Very interesting!
I once worked with a woman from Iraq who has 2 daughters.
When they moved to Canada, they were each given permission to make their own choice regarding whether to wear the headscarf or not.
The older daughter decided that that she WOULD wear it, the younger sister opted NOT to.
Their reasons, oddly enough were the same!
Each of the girls said their choice was based on demonstrating their “power”.
BOTH siblings said that their reasoning was based soley on practicality & aesthetics!
In the end it seems to me that, given the CHOICE, their decisions had more to do with: personal perspective, freedom of choice, and to some degree, courage.
